Course Description:
This semester (Spring 2022), her Survey of Chicanx Literature and Culture class aims to provide students with the skills to appreciate, contextualize, and enjoy learning about Chicanx literature and culture. Because the course is cross-listed with SPPO 354 and SWGS 354, students will do more than read literary texts: they will think about the different sociopolitical intersections at which culture, broadly speaking, is created. While students will read novels by Alejandro Morales, Oscar Acosta, and Demetria Martinez, they will also watch films, listen to music, read political manifestos, and binge-watch TV shows. During the semester students will create timeline presentations about different aspects of Chicanx culture, which will hopefully be publicly available for the extended Rice community to enjoy.
