Day in the Life of an English Major: Julia Li, EUA Co-President

“A Day in the Life of an English Major” is pretty much what it says in the title: a look at how a Rice English major spends their time each day. However, we’re doing things a little differently now so instead of asking our amazing English majors to track their day with paragraphs and pictures, we’ve asked them to do a vlog! Do they really spend six hours a day doing a dramatic reading of  Shakespeare, as the pre-med students suspect? Do they hide out in the library reciting Sylvia Plath’s poetry, like the econ majors hypothesize? Find out in this month’s edition of “A Day in the Life of an English Major.”

Julia is a senior from Brown College at Rice University majoring in English with a creative writing concentration. After graduation, Julia will be attending Stanford University to earn her master’s degree in physician assistant studies. Her work has appeared in R2: Rice Review, and she has won the 2022 Max Apple Prize in Creative Nonfiction, the 2022 George G Williams Prize in Creative Writing, and is a recipient of the 2023 Schumann Brother’s Grant for Travel Journalism. In her free time, Julia loves to write, spend time with her friends, and exploring new cafes.

Without further ado, let’s hear about a typical day for Julia:
